OPEN ROAD 7
January 1 next year will mark a new era of renewal for the
NRMA, with changes to regional boundaries and a reduction
in the number of NRMA electoral regions from eight to six.
The changes allow the NRMA to add up to three appointed
directors with specialist skills to the Board. This follows
Members voting to amend the NRMA Constitution at last
year’s AGM and guarantees the majority of directors on
the NRMA Board remain Member-elected (six of nine).
This means my area of coverage is set to expand from The
Hills Shire in north-western Sydney right up to Coffs Harbour
on the Mid North Coast. Blacktown now falls under the very
capable David Bentham. It has been an honour to represent
Blacktown Members for the past nine years and I have no
doubt David will continue to serve you well.
With Christmas coming, I would like to remind you all to
stay safe on the roads over the festive season and enjoy
the holiday time with family and friends. If you’re heading
away from home, don’t forget to avail yourself of the great
Member discounts at our numerous NRMA holiday parks
across the country, and check out our no hidden costs
payment plan to help you budget trips more easily over
the summer holidays.
You can also download the NRMA app from the App Store
or Google Play to find the cheapest fuel prices and make huge
savings at the closest location to you along your journey.
I also encourage you to consider booking your car into an
NRMA Car Servicing centre before you hit the road for peace
of mind when travelling with your loved ones.
Finally, thank you for your continued support of the NRMA
throughout 2017. It has been a big year and 2018 is shaping
up to be even bigger. Watch this space for more and, in the
meantime, have a very merry Christmas and I wish you all
the best in the new year.
EXCITING CHANGES IN THE YEAR AHEAD
CORAL TAYLOR Director
Sydney North and North-West (Howe Region)
Going out on a high note
After 12 years of
dedicated service at
the NRMA, Kyle
Loades says farewell
with a proud and
I’M WRITING TO YOU for the last
time as Chairman and President of
the NRMA, as I have reached the
end of the maximum 12-year term
as a Director. I do so with a heavy
heart but also with a sense of
satisfaction at how the NRMA has
thrived over that time.
When I joined the NRMA Board in
2005, the organisation was in
transition after the demutualisation
of NRMA Insurance. I ’m pleased to
note that we not only got back on
track, but we’re now clearing a new
path for the mobility sector.
To achieve this, we needed a very
special CEO to give the NRMA a new
purpose in this new century. Rohan
Lund emerged from a pack of
quality candidates to take the role,
and the change he has driven has
exceeded the Board’s expectations.
In less than two years, he has
significantly transformed the
NRMA and is now implementing a
new strategy based on the concept
of ‘my car, my journey, my
destination and my Membership’.
All these elements can be seen in
the establishment of the NRMA
electric vehicle charging network,
which is a defining piece of
investment in infrastructure that will
forever change the way Australians
move around our country.
The new approach is also
apparent in our leadership of the
rise of automation, connectivity and
sharing in mobility. For instance,
with our partners we have delivered
the first driverless vehicle project in
NSW or the ACT, and have expanded
our tourism footprint to become
one of the largest operators of
regional tourism in the country.
On this happy note, it’s time to
say goodbye. To the Board, Rohan
and the NRMA team, I express my
admiration and appreciation for
what you’ve achieved so far, the
work you do today and the success
that awaits you in the future.
I offer my humblest thanks to the
NRMA frontline team, whether on
the roadside, on a phone or in our
accommodation businesses, for the
great work you do every day and
the fine spirit in which you do it.
And to my fellow NRMA
Members, let me say what a
pleasure it has been to get to know
you and to act as a custodian of this
organisation’s proud legacy. Our
Members are the bedrock of our
mutual. Everything we do is for you.
KYLE LOADES Chairman
Kyle Loades leaves the
NRMA after serving a full
and successful term.
